GRAVEL LANE DESIGN - 7 Project Before and Afters

7 Project Before and Afters

The season of renewal is upon us (even though this unpredictable Central Illinois weather likes to play tricks), bringing an exciting sense of new life and refreshment that is much needed after enduring the grueling winter months. The simple act of opening the windows and letting your home breathe is enough to get most people excited for Spring. If you’re feeling that energy and want to see it cultivated in your home, we’d love to inspire you with seven before-and-after remodeling projects to motivate you to consider giving your home some new life!

Project One – Modern Kitchen Design

This first home had a gorgeous footprint that attracted the clients to purchase it with the intent to renovate extensively. The kitchen was dark, isolated, and not taking advantage of the square footage this home had to offer. It was completely gutted, including knocking down the main wall of cabinets to open it up to the dining room. After reconfiguring the layout, the clients were able to achieve their dream kitchen, while not sacrificing a dining space.

In terms of the design, black cabinetry, gold accents, and a striking quartz express a modern and luxurious feel to this show-stopping kitchen. In terms of storage, the custom cabinetry features allow for easy organization, and we even created space for two fridges! The large island also provides ample space for cooking and entertaining.

It’s hard to believe the two photos below are from the same home!

Project Two – Refreshing Bathroom Remodel

The design in this primary bathroom was falling flat, so it was time for a redesign. We wanted to bring in a bit more pattern and texture to create a space that was more visually interesting. We achieved that through a fun shower tile, new flooring, the wood accent wall, and an antiqued mirror on the linen cabinet.

We were able to add that linen cabinet where the old shower used to be, taking out the tub to create a much larger walk-in shower that was no longer cramped and dark. For the vanity, we opted for a furniture-style design in a moody paint color with framed mirrors to match. The result was a much more intentional design that better reflected the personality of the client while simultaneously creating extra storage space.

Project Three – Enhanced Living Room

This homeowner was ready to add stylish storage to bring both beauty and function to this living space. With essentially a blank canvas to work with, we added custom-built-ins with open shelving surrounding a stone fireplace. The bottom cabinets are great for storing electronics, games, blankets, etc., while the open shelving serves as a spot for the homeowner to decorate seasonally.

On the other side of the room, there was a spot near the windows begging to be a window seat. We added a custom-built-in bench with closed storage, creating a usable space that was otherwise empty. There were other design changes to this room, including new flooring, a coffered ceiling, window treatments, and new fixtures.

The results turned out so well on this one!

Project Four – Cozy Custom Kitchen

This kitchen wasn’t necessarily in bad shape, but it lacked the personality and layout the homeowner was hoping for. We turned the peninsula into a large island, which added more seating for the family to gather and generated a better flow to the space. We also took the cabinetry up to the ceiling, creating a more visually seamless look.

In terms of some of the custom upgrades, the most notable might be the natural quartzite countertops that tie together the white and wood cabinetry perfectly. This kitchen also features paneled appliances, custom storage features, and a mirrored glass cabinet.

Look how beautifully the “after” ended up!

Project Five – Total Bathroom Transformation

While the previous design was definitely memorable, this guest bathroom was in need of a contemporary upgrade. The room was gutted and reconfigured, moving the toilet to the other wall to allow for a larger shower as well as linen storage. We switched out the wall tile for the shower to a neutral tone, while keeping the stacked multi-tonal look.

We covered the walls and trim in a deep earthy green, incorporating wood tones and gold fixtures throughout to bring in some warmth. The vanity was topped with a custom quartz that provided an easier-to-clean surface than the existing tile top with grout lines.

This was definitely a significant transformation!

Project Six – Updated Beachy Kitchen

Outgrown and overrun, this homeowner was ready to make some changes to the kitchen. Thanks to a few wall removals, this kitchen expanded to the square footage it needed to accommodate this family. We increased the storage, adding custom cabinetry features, as well as the amount of prep space, giving this kitchen much more room to breathe and function more efficiently.

The client requested that the design be inspired by the beach, which is reflected in the sandy wood tones, bright white and deep blue cabinetry, and the backsplash tile that resembles sea glass and sparkling waters.

This remodel improved the kitchen in more ways than one!

Project Seven – Fabulous Finished Basement

Last, but certainly not least, finishing off this basement may be one of the best transformations of the bunch! We took a blank canvas of unused space and turned it into the hangout spot of the neighborhood. Starting from scratch with framing, drywall, flooring, etc., led to custom-built-ins, a fireplace, and a custom bar, resulting in the perfect basement lounge.

We did a mix of open and closed storage surrounding the fireplace, adding plenty of storage space to keep the space clutter-free. The bar features our custom cabinetry with quartz countertops in a waterfall edge. There’s a large built-in beverage fridge along with a floating shelf to house bottles according to their respective temperatures. Ample seating is scattered throughout this space, making it suitable for entertaining a crowd.

Check out how awesome this basement turned out in the end!
