Trending in Home Design: Green Color Palettes

More and more homeowners are moving away from using all neutrals and becoming a bit more experimental with the color palettes in their homes. The latest color trend that seems to be making its way into more homes happens to be the color they just dyed the Chicago River over the weekend for St. Patrick’s Day- GREEN!

Whether it be on cabinetry, walls, or textiles, green has made a name for itself in terms of interiors and has been replacing neutrals in many newly designed spaces. Perhaps because green is so common in nature, we have started to associate it with being somewhat of a neutral color in itself. However, with so many shades and variations of green paint colors ranging from subtle to vibrant, you can take on this trending color however you see fit! If you’re searching for inspiration on how to incorporate green into your home, take a look at these recent projects where various shades of green have dominated!

Galápagos Green by Benjamin Moore

First up we have this gorgeous custom kitchen painted in Galápagos Green by Benjamin Moore. This project is full of unique touches, but the cabinetry color is arguably the most notable. This playful green is accented by warm woods and gold hardware. The green cabinetry extends to the adjacent breakfast nook where it’s paired with a checkered tile flooring. We love this color for kitchen cabinetry, but also think it work well for a laundry room or mudroom!

If you like Galápagos Green, you may also like this similar color below that we’ve used in a few different spaces. It’s a touch darker and a bit more cool-toned.

Rosemary by Sherwin Williams

The paint color used on this cabinetry is Rosemary by Sherwin Williams. It’s slightly toned down while still having those rich green undertones. We’ve used it on pantry cabinetry as well as a laundry room, but we also think it could be a great wall color perhaps for a bathroom if you’re looking to experiment in a smaller space.

One shade darker than Rosemary is a tried-and-true Gravel Lane favorite that several clients have fallen in love with after seeing it on the office built-ins at the Eureka showroom.

Shade Grown by Sherwin Williams

This is Shade Grown by Sherwin Williams, a classic moody green that is sure to satisfy your craving for color while still feeling sophisticated. We’ve used this in many projects in all types of rooms and truthfully, it hasn’t failed us yet. We love it for custom built-ins, but it seems to work just as well in bathrooms and laundry rooms. If you need to see this one for yourself, stop by our showroom in Eureka!

If you add some cool gray to Shade Grown, you might end up with something like this color below.

Homburg Gray by Sherwin Williams

While the photos may not show much difference between the two, this Homburg Gray by Sherwin Williams is a bit more diluted and cool-toned. Used here both on the walls and the storage nook, this color gives off a certain elegance that you just can’t get from a plain gray.

Intrigued by the idea of using green for a wall color? Check out this next project.

Intrigue by Benjamin Moore

For this bathroom project, we stuck to neutrals for the vanity and tile, but opted for Intrigue by Benjamin Moore for the wall color. It’s similar to Homburg Gray as far as hue goes, but lighter in value. The appearance of paint colors will always depend on how much natural light enters the room, if any, as well as the color temperature of the artificial lighting within the space. It’s always best to try out samples in your space to be sure you’ll love it!

Last but not least, our final green inspiration isn’t a paint color at all, but rather a tile!

Cloé Tile in Green

This is actually a tile we’ve used in plenty of kitchens and bathrooms, however this is the first time we’ve used it in green! This is the Cloé tile (2.5” x 8”) that went into one of our commercial projects. It’s a multi-tonal tile that garners your attention, especially in this wonderful shade of green. We look this would look stunning in a walk-in shower if you’re looking for something striking yet inviting.
